Isabel Clara Eugenia was born on August 12 , 1566 in the city of Segovia and died on December 1, 1633 in the city of Brussels.She ruled since 6 may, 1598 until july 13,1621.
She was the daughter of King Philiph II and Isabel of Valois.After the death of his wife and claiming the maternal ancestry of Isabel,Philiph II fought unsuccessfully to get her daughter to the throne of France. Married Archduke Ernest,widowed and remarried Archduke Albert ,who shared, in 1598 the actual appointment of sovereigns of the Netherlands with a nominal independence that could not stop the war. In 1621 the widowed princess again without having offspring, and the goverment of Flanders returned to Spanish Crown. Isabel held the office of governor and resided there for the rest of her life , alternating hits,like Breda in 1625,with failures ,such as Bois-le-Duc (1629) and Maastricht (1632) , under the war that the Austrians could not win and culminated with the recognition of the independnce of the Netherlands in the Peace of Westphalia of 1648.
